SPN 3x15 - Time is on my Side

So I think that might have been the best episode this show's ever turned out. In terms of production value, pacing, everything - just a bang-up job all around. All the dolly and wide shots were gorgeous. The color looked amazing as well. So did THEY! Sam's hair is killing me. And that's twice since hiatus that the show that's never actually scared me before has scared me (Ghostfacers and now this one).

Story:

I found myself amazed at the 30 minute mark that the show was only at the 30 minute mark. One of the problems I consistently have with this show is that not enough ever seems to happen in the eps and they feel stretched, like they only had 30 pages of material for a script that needs 45.

Coming in in the middle of the action too was great. Hey look! They do hunt demons and don't just drive around in the Impala all the time, or drink coffee on park benches, or sit in their room cleaning guns - metaphorically or otherwise. The exorcism scene was incredible. The pacing, their desperation poorly hidden under Winchester bravado, the guy playing the demon - all excellent. I gasped when he said "Your mother..." then paused. Also, the way the guy was lit from behind by the fire was well done. Loved it.

JOHN'S JOURNAL! Oh my heart stopped. Keepin it old-school Sammy, *draws hearts*

Dean, an imbittered hunter who's slightly mad and not slightly amoral, and a bottle of Johnnie blue is a scene I could watch for a very long time.

Bela, we hardly knew you before you were rushed off the stage, but at least your ending and story made sense, unlike Jo or Ash last year.

And of course, while the credits loomed close and just as I began to wonder if this was even the same show they drop an anvil the size of Texas, just to remind us that yes, you are still watching a CW show. I mean really? That's the way they got rid of that dude? Buried alive with his journal artfully placed on top of his refrigerator-shaped coffin? Not chopping up into tiny pieces and incinerating? Yeah, no, Sammy won't be digging that guy up or anything by finale's end or early next season, if we're to believe the teasers for next week. Sure he won't.

Speaking of teasers for next week...actually lets not. I don't think my fangirl heart can take it at this point. I will say though that there's no way this season isn't ending in a cliff hanger. I'm really glad that we didn't move Wincon to August this year. Because all any of us would be doing is sitting around biting our nails wondering what the hell is going to happen to them.

There is just no way that Wincon should ever be before the season opener. That's just cruel! What else is cruel is them burying that guy like that. It made NO SENSE and was mean and petty.

Also, I have no problem with Bela being taken by Hellhounds in the end. None at all. I just wish they hadn't made her the victim of sexual abuse for the simple reason that that's all anyone can talk about now and the wank is ON. *sigh* It's the CW people. It'll never change.

Yeah on Bela, it was cheap to go the sex abuse route, but effective. Calm down, feather-ruffled fangirls.

Well, also, if you wanted to do it here, August in Baltimore is cruel and unusual punishment. Seriously.

*nod*

Oh I so agree! Honestly the quality of cinematography and production on the show amazes me, it's so far above most TV shows. And yes to the story last night - action, tension, angst - right in the groove. I think next season is going to knock it out of the park.

Dean, an imbittered hunter who's slightly mad and not slightly amoral, and a bottle of Johnnie blue is a scene I could watch for a very long time. Me too! And how heartbreaking to add this - driving home that either way there's no happy ending for the boys *sobs*

So glad at Wincon we'll be squeeing over new episodes!

I think in terms of quality for these last few eps is that they had the money in the bank for a lot more episodes than they actually had time to shoot, so they blew it on better production value. which, maybe that will give the network somethng to consider for next year's budget when they see the better product.

these are the stupid things i think about instead of how pretty Sam's hair was. or how Dean's essence, stance, EVERYTHING seems to be diminshed and sort of curled in on itself in fear. the worst is that he doesn't think it's showing at all. *SIGH* a desperate Dean is a FOOLISH one. keep that in mind, SAM, okay?

Dean's essence, stance, EVERYTHING seems to be diminshed and sort of curled in on itself in fear. the worst is that he doesn't think it's showing at all. Thats a perfect way of putting it. And the moment in this ep when Dean goes and Sam stays - so much in that scene about the complexity of their relationship. It broke me!
